A second visit to Humbie and a longer and more concerted effort produced just as many fish as the first visit, a resounding and absolute zero. No signs of fish and no bites or interest. It still looks fishy enough though. Once one fish falls, more will surely follow. Another time...
We fished Humbie Quarry and Reservoir nearly 50 years ago. The quarry had big roach and a few large pike. The reservoir had large schools of roach and you could fish from man made stances or from the dam in the evening. I revisited the quarry a few years ago and it appeared almost fully drained, which cant have helped the stocks. The reservoir is a trout fishery and no doubt the roach have been netted to extinction as they did the monster roach in my local River Tyne at East Linton. There's also a pond in Kirkliston which is connected by the same stream that flows by Paddy Higgins Pond, through the reservoir befor joining the Kirkliston pond. I tried this pond many years ago but saw no sign of fish.
